Bengal: Student alleges rape, police launch probe

The New Township Police Station (NTPS), under the Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC), launched an investigation following a complaint of alleged rape of a second-year MBBS student of a private medical college in Durgapur lodged last night.
The survivor's family arrived from Jaleswar in Odisha in the early hours today.
Amid outrage over the incident, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi condemned the rape and demanded swift action by his West Bengal counterpart.
“I am deeply shocked to hear this news, it is a very sensitive matter and I strongly demand that the CM of West Bengal, Mamta Banerjee takes exemplary action against the accused person as per law,” Mr Majhi in a post of X.
