IT MUST have been a miserable Thursday for many Durban commuters who rely on taxis to ferry them to their workplaces, schools, and other destinations around the city.

Durban taxi operators didn’t put their vehicles in gear on Thursday and possibly today due to ongoing issues with the local authorities. Their main gripe is that the wait is long and there is too much red tape from the Department of Transport to secure permits that enable them to legally operate their vehicles.
