SOUTH Africa's women's hockey team began their Africa Cup of Nations title defence with a commanding 10-0 victory over hosts Egypt in Ismailia, while the men finally got their campaign under way with a 3-1 win over Kenya.

THE South African women downed hosts Egypt 10-0 as they began the defence of their Africa Cup of Nations title in style at the weekend.

The South African women wasted no time asserting their authority, leading 5-0 at halftime after taking the lead inside the opening three minutes through the first of veteran Thati Zulu's goals - an emphatic reverse strike.
