Perry faces lawsuit as Kelly hospitalised in prison drama

From legal troubles to profound personal revelations, here’s a look at the biggest stories making waves in the celebrity sphere.

Tyler Perry’s legal troubles

Renowned film and television mogul Tyler Perry has found himself embroiled in a serious legal battle, facing a $260 million lawsuit filed by actor Derek Dixon.

The suit, submitted in a Los Angeles court, entails allegations of sexual assault and harassment allegedly carried out by Perry during the production of his popular television shows The Oval and Ruthless.

Dixon alleges Perry promised him a successful acting career but then subjected him to “escalating sexual harassment, assault and battery and professional retaliation” when he didn't reciprocate Perry’s “unwanted advances”.

Perry's lawyer denied the allegations and called the lawsuit a “scam” to make money.

R Kelly’s health crisis

Disgraced singer and convicted sex trafficker, R Kelly has been hospitalised following a medical overdose in prison.

Kelly was rushed to Duke University Hospital after reportedly being placed in solitary confinement on June 10, where he was administered a cocktail of medication by prison staff.

Allegations from his legal team suggest that the medications were provided along with “instructions to take it”.

At the hospital, Kelly's lawyers say he “learned that he had been administered an overdose quantity of his medications that threatened his life”.

Kelly’s legal team has taken steps to request his release into home detention. However, this appeal has been met with strong opposition from federal prosecutors.
