Limpopo musician Dr Nel found dead after performance

LIMPOPO residents have been left reeling after the death of popular musician and Lekompo artist Molimisi Baaitsi, affectionately known to fans as Dr Nel.

The 31-year-old artist was found dead along Phetogo Drive in the early hours of Sunday, November 2, shortly after performing at the grand opening of a local pub.

Police have opened a case of culpable homicide and say investigations are under way to determine what led to his death.

Provincial police spokesperson in Limpopo, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said officers received a report at around 4 am about a person lying on the road.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police found a male lying face down on the roadway. He was certified dead on the scene by Witpoort Emergency Medical Services personnel,” Ledwaba said.

Preliminary reports suggest that the deceased was last seen alive performing at a local entertainment venue hours before his body was found.

Although the SAPS media statement did not name the deceased, the man has been confirmed by community members and local musicians as Molimisi Baaitsi, a rising star in Limpopo’ vibrant house and Lekompo music scene.
