DR DIANE Adamson, right, chief medical officer at the University Hospitals of the North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs the Royal Stoke, said: "Ideally we would not want any of our patients to wait in our Emergency Department, but sometimes this is unavoidable during particularly busy periods while our teams prioritise and treat those who are most seriously ill or injured first. We understand that long waits can be distressing for patients and their families, and we apologise to anyone who has experienced this. Delivering safe, high-quality care to everyone who comes to our hospitals remains our top priority.
