Grice backs Town to steer clear of the drop

- Clive Youlton

LEEK Town legend Tim Grice believes Newcastle Town will be fine in the Northern Premier League West Division now they have a settled team.

The 36-year-old broke all records at his former club, having smashed through the 250-goal barrier as well as making 500 appearances for Leek across a magnificent 13-year spell.

Now he has been at Newcastle for a year and says he is enjoying his football more than ever.

This season didn’t start well for Grice who fractured a tibia in June but, naturally fit, he has since returned to the side and played as a second-half substitute in the 0-0 draw against Stafford Rangers and then as Newcastle beat Nantwich Town 3-0 on Saturday.

It was his first 90 minutes since his Leek testimonial back in May.

With manager Neil Baker recuperating from a heart attack, his assistant Paul Wright has taken over the reins for now.

“I didn’t realise how bad a fracture was compared to a break,” said Grice.
