OAPs 'stranded' due to gas leak repairs

- Jonathan Sutton

FED-UP residents say a Stoke-on-Trent road closure is causing 'nightmare' congestion as they struggle to get off their estate.

Barlaston Road in Newstead has been shut since Tuesday, May 20 for emergency gas repairs.

A diversion has been put in place but families say this is causing issues with traffic backed up and damage to vehicles.

Meanwhile, no buses can access Newstead, leaving elderly and disabled residents marooned.

The current traffic order to close the road is set to end on Tuesday.

To help tackle some of the issues, residents have called for access to be restored to the estate via Sherborne Close which connects to the industrial estate.

The road was blocked by Stoke-on-Trent City Council a number of years ago.
