Shake-up of councils will be 'costly and unnecessary'

County council call on PM to scrap plans

ALL 62 county councillors in Staffordshire have joined forces to call on Sir Keir Starmer to scrap local government reorganisation in the county.

In a letter to the PM led by county council leader Ian Cooper, they say they support devolution to transfer decision making to local areas.

But they have warned that structural reorganisation of councils is unnecessary in Staffordshire, and costly to the taxpayer.

And they add that there is widespread opposition throughout Staffordshire communities who fear the loss of local responsiveness.
