'Amazing' story of how Shayne's body was found 12 years after he vanished on one of Snowdonia's biggest peaks

- Gary Porter

THE mystery of what happened to a Stoke-on-Trent walker who vanished in Snowdonia was finally solved by chance more than a decade later.

Shayne Colaco went missing on Pen Yr Ole Wen, the seventh highest mountain in Wales in 2012.

Despite an extensive search, the body of the 33-year-old psychiatrist was never discovered.

But the mystery was remarkably solved in May last year 12 years on when volunteers recovering the body of another man found Shayne in exactly the same spot.

Now a police officer has shared the story to highlight the dangers of walking in Eryri, the Welsh name for Snowdonia.

Sergeant Paul Terry, right, of the North Wales Police Drone Unit, who assisted in the recovery of the two men, said: "This story and these circumstances really are quite exceptional."

The story began in 2012 when Dr Colaco, of Ambassador Road, Hanley, went walking in the Carneddau range.
