Moore tells Vale to learn from costly late switch-off
The Sentinel
|August 21, 2025
DARREN Moore bemoaned his Port Vale side's lack of concentration as they let slip a goal advantage to lose late on against Stevenage.
The Valiants looked like they were about to take their first three points of the season.
But injuries to Funso Ojo and Jordan Shipley upset the rhythm and further substitutions didn't work as Boro struck back to win 2-1.
Moore told the club website: "I said to the boys we can't afford to throw out the good work that we've done up to 87 minutes.
"What has done us is concentration. And I said to them as long as they learn, in terms of the concentration element and going right the way to the bitter end, then it stands us in good stead for the rest of the season."
He added: "This was a defeat that was more self-inflicted than anything else and that's the most disappointing thing.
"On the flip side, in the previous two games we got two back-to-back clean sheets and we were really disciplined in our work, really tight and focused.
"We were here for 87 minutes and all of a sudden football is football and it can kick you right where it hurts in a split second.
