Community pride as plaques unveiled
THE missing names of 149 fallen soldiers have finally been added to the site of a war memorial.
The names of the heroes - 95 from the First World War and 54 from the Second - have been placed on new plaques alongside the original memorial to Fenton's war dead at its town hall.
It follows a tireless campaign after it was spotted the names were missing during the fight to save the civic building in 2012.
It was feared the memorial would be lost after Fenton Town Hall was put up for sale by the Ministry of Justice - only for it to be saved by a community campaign.
Now the new plaques have been revealed at a special ceremony at the town hall.
They were unveiled by Lord Mayor Steve Watkins and historian Tony Davies, the man who originally spotted the men weren't listed.
The memorials were then blessed by Glenn Parkes of Temple Street Methodist Church.
