County councillors have set out how they intend to ensure youngsters receive the best support in life during their crucial early years development

'It's essential that we give children the best possible start before they start school'

VITAL: Learning to play together is one of the council's development criteria for children.

PLANS to improve county children’s early years development have been laid out.

Staffordshire County Council says its Best Start policy brings together early years education, childcare and family support services, focusing on the period from pregnancy to age five.

Tied in with a Government initiative, the project will see Best Start centres open, initially in existing family hubs in Newcastle, Cannock and East Staffordshire. More will follow.
