Rob Rinder and Rylan Clark tell LYNN RUSK how their epic latest travel adventure became a true journey of self-discovery for the firm friends

Rob, 47, who rose to fame as the formidable Judge Rinder on ITV, reflects: “I had been to India before but I never got under the skin of it in the way I did this time. I had gone as a tourist, visiting buildings and galleries, but without really meeting many Indian people.

“In A Passage To India, E.M. Forster says that if you truly want to discover India, you must meet its people. This time it was such a gift, because we did that alongside him. It made me experience India in such a rich way, and it changed so much in both me and Rylan’s ways of thinking.”

Reflecting on Forster’s writing, the London-born presenter adds: “He was a genius at observing the world and interpreting it in a way that helped us both learn and feel and that’s what great writing is.
