Council praised by developers for 'UK first'
DEVELOPERS have praised Newcastle Borough Council after it became the first in the UK to back plans to transform a former car park and shopping centre into new homes.
The Sentinel has reported how the scheme by social impact developer Capital&Centric for the major development in Newcastle of a 'pioneering urban neighbourhood' has been given the green light.
Rather than demolishing the unloved buildings, Capital&Centric are giving them a major reboot, and creating 'one-of-a-kind' residential led-neighbourhoods.
The developers believe it's the first time in the UK that a car park or shopping centre has been repurposed in this way, and have praised the borough council for backing their 'radical approach to urban placemaking'.
