Club and individuals receive prestigious freedom accolade
FROM those who have led the city's football clubs to entrepreneurs and community leaders - 10 of the city's finest have been given the Honorary Freedom of the City.
Nine individuals and Port Vale FC received the honour as Stoke-on-Trent marked its 100th anniversary as a city.
The honour recognises 'eminent and valuable services to the City of Stoke-on-Trent'.
The prestigious honour is presented only to those who have made an 'extraordinary impact'.
It signifies the respect that the city has for the individuals that have been honoured and Port Vale FC.
Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Councillor Steve Watkins, said: "It is an absolute privilege to bestow the Freedom of the City on these individuals and organisations whose efforts have made a real and lasting difference. Each one of them represents the very best of Stoke-on-Trent - in spirit, dedication and achievement.
"As we mark our centenary year, this honour is a fitting way to celebrate those who have helped shape our story."
Former Stoke City chairman Peter Coates made the list, as did daughter Denise, below.
