A POLICE officer risked his own life by running into a burning home amid fears a child was trapped inside.

- Hayley Parker

Sergeant Andrew Hogan-Hughes made his way upstairs to the worst affected area of the Cobridge house to search for any casualties.

As a result, Sgt Hogan-Hughes suffered burns to his arm and head after shunning his own safety to help others. Now the officer - and two of his colleagues - have been praised for their bravery following the June 14 blaze.

PC Martin Green and PC Luci Williams had been on patrol around Cobridge when they came across a house in Hillary Street which was well alight at 3am.
