LEEK seconds won a thrilling contest at Betley by just two runs in NSSCL Division Three.

Leek managed to reach 180-7 from a rain-reduced 36 overs on their Saturday trip to Church Lane.

Tom Grindey’s half-century formed the backbone of the Moorlanders’ innings.

Grindey hit 16 fours in his 77, with Joshua Woodcock adding 42 and Damien Harvey chipping in with 26.

Bailey Sant captured 4-51 for the home side, with Adam Williams grabbing a couple of scalps.

Jonathan Phipps’ 54, which featured five fours and four sixes, was the principal contribution to the Betley run chase.

And although Tom Happe weighed in with 44 and Ryan Cheetham struck 29, Betley closed just short of victory on 178-8.

Woodcock completed a fine individual day with 4-29, with Kieran Carr’s double strike also helping Leek’s cause.

Oakamoor seconds wrapped up an eight-wicket triumph at Porthill Park thirds.

Oakamoor put themselves in control of the contest by dismissing their hosts for 95 in the first half.
