CONGLETON broke through the 400-run barrier on their way to an emphatic NSSCL Division Two win at Norton in Hales seconds.

- Chris Travers

Congleton piled up 412-5 declared from 49 overs in Saturday's encounter - which is one of, if not the highest scores in local league history.

Harry Podmore led the run spree with 137, with Tom Courtney (61no), Jack Higginbotham (59) and Lyndon Booth (58no) all lending valuable support.

In reply, Norton in Hales were skittled for just 95.

John Copeland helped himself to 5-6, with Sean Cardall scooping 4-8 as Congleton secured the biggest winning margin in their history.

Crewe cruised to the points at home against Meakins 2nd XI.

‘The destination of the spoils was all-but settled by the halfway point after the Cheshire hosts had amassed 263-2 from their 50 overs.

Opener Rory Kalnins formed the backbone of the innings, batting through for an unbeaten 117, which contained 13 fours.

Ollie Jarvis and Lewis Bacon also hit half-centuries to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Jarvis struck six fours in his 63, with Bacon’s 58 not out featuring two boundaries.
