'Careless' and 'deliberate' firestarting blamed for rise in summer blazes

THE number of outdoor fires in Staffordshire increased by 70 per cent over spring and summer, latest figures show.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service reports there were 1,828 outdoor fires from April to September this year, compared to 1,076 the same period in the previous year.
It also means there has been an increase in the overall number of incidents, which are up 21% compared to last year.
