ROB FIDDAMAN this week chats to Jonah Shaw of the band Unit 17 who have released a new single, Bitter, which you can listen to on streaming platforms

BITTER SWEET

Hi Jonah, where are you from? I am from Crewe.

What music do you think has influenced you the most?

I spent my childhood learning the moonwalk in front of the television from Michael Jackson's music videos on DVD.

Then when I was about seven or eight, I came home singing Call Me Maybe, and in a state of panic my father decided it was time for me to start listening to Definitely Maybe and all the Oasis B-Sides which was followed with the entirety of 90s Britpop. I think my band, Unit 17, sounds closest to the Stereophonics. We play Dakota live quite a bit but I adore their early stuff as well. Traffic is a great tune.

What instruments do you play?

I sing and I play the guitar.

Tell me about Unit 17.

Our new single Bitter is out now on all streaming platforms. If you like 90s Britpop as well as 80s rock you'll like Bitter.

How would you describe the band in three words?

STREAM. BITTER. NOW.

How did you come up with the name Unit 17?

That's the name of the room we rehearse in.

Where do you go to record?
