MP calls for vital routes to be upgraded

- Joseph Richards

AN MP is calling for Government investment in the A50/A500 corridor to help create 39,000 jobs and build 67,000 new homes.

Jacob Collier, pictured, has joined other MPs in writing to Chancellor Rachel Reeves to highlight the importance of the two key routes to Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire to call for the routes to be upgraded.

The A50/A500 corridor is a critical economic artery, supporting major employers such as JCB, Rolls-Royce, Toyota, Nestlé, Bentley, AstraZeneca, Michelin Tyres and Steelite.

But MPs say the route faces severe congestion at key pinch points, particularly in North Staffordshire and Uttoxeter, and at the junction with the M1.

Uttoxeter MP Jacob Collier is Parliamentary Champion for the A50/A500 corridor and has regularly spoken about the urgent upgrades required.
