Self-rated poverty down to 50% — SWS

Filipinos rating their families as "not poor" reached a record high in April even as one in two respondents still considered their families poor, a survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.

The survey, conducted from April 23 to 28, found that 50 percent of Filipino families rating themselves as poor, down from 55 percent recorded in an earlier April 11 to 15 survey.

SWS said the poll translates to 14.1 million poor families at the end of April, down from 15.5 million in the previous survey.

Although self-rated poverty went down between the two surveys, SWS data showed that the latest figure was similar to the 50 percent obtained in a similar poll in January.

It was down from an average of 57 percent in 2024, but still higher than the average of 48 percent in 2022 and 2023.
