Ramon Ang: Not interested!

I have had the honor of knowing SMC Chairman and President Ramon Ang since 1991 and never once did he express any interest in politics and especially public office.

He has repeatedly said: “Not Interested!”

Yesterday, Thursday November 20, he once again had to repeat the words “NOT INTERESTED” after news spread that a group of retired generals, business and industry leaders made mention of Ramon Ang as the ideal choice for a “transitional leader” or temporary president.

First of all, | or we must be suspicious about such reports whether it’s true or false. | find it hard to believe that a bunch of destabilizers or plotters would leak out their plans or strategies so carelessly.

There is always the possibility that the “news” was thrown into the rumor mill to place RSA or SMC under government suspicion or destabilize the company not necessarily the government.

This of course is nothing new, during the COVID pandemic when frustration was running high, some groups also pushed a “Ramon Ang for President” movement. After that, columnists and TV personalities also made strong suggestions for RSA to run for president.

This kind of talk tends to surface whenever the public senses tension or uncertainty. People instinctively look for leaders they can trust to keep things moving in the right direction.

Ang, however, has already put the matter to rest: he is not entering politics. His refusal is not evasive. It simply reflects the role he has consistently chosen for himself over the decades.

Ang leads by building, not campaigning. RSA may love to chat but in reality he is engaging people as his sounding board, bouncing off ideas or projects already half way to completion. It is not just talk. It’s project execution.
