Proposed Jump in NTF-ELCAC Budget Defended

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has defended the increase in the proposed budget for the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), saying the funds will be used to develop and improve barangays cleared of insurgents.
At a hearing of the House committee on appropriations on the 2026 budget, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the proposed P8.08 billion funding for the NTF-ELCAC represents a 314-percent increase from the P1.95 billion in 2025.
Remulla said the funds would go to barangays officially declared free of communist influence. Each barangay is recommended to receive P10 million for development initiatives.
