Palace insists 'no sacred cows' in budget insertions probe

The probe on the anomalous flood control projects should continue regardless of who gets tagged in the controversy, Malacañang said on Sunday after Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson revealed that some Cabinet members had kickbacks in this year's budget, based on public works documents.

“Regardless of who among the Cabinet is involved, if there is evidence, the investigation should continue so the wrongdoers will be identified. As the President said, whoever they are, they should be held to account if they are really involved,” Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a text message.

Castro said the probe is now in the hands of investigating bodies like the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

“Whoever has enough pieces of evidence may submit them to the ICC (Independent Commission for Infrastructure) or file cases directly before the ombudsman or the DOJ,” she added.
