NEW NUSANTARA, ADVANCED INDONESIA

79 years ago, a nation in Southeast Asia — stretching from Sabang to Merauke, the Republic of Indonesia — declared its independence after decades of colonialization.

And today, we commemorate that pivotal moment in our nation’s history: Indonesia’s Independence Day, a day that symbolizes our collective aspiration for freedom, dignity, and self-determination.

However, t ransi t ioning into an independent country was not smooth sailing, especially when the world was not “friendly” to newly independent states. Not long after our independence, the Cold War happened. When the world was divided, Indonesia managed to stay neutral. Not only that, Indonesia emerged as the founding father of the Non-Aligned Movement.

We championed cooperation and mutual respect above all.

This year’s Independence Day celebration, by taking the theme “Nusantara Baru, Indonesia Maju” which translates to “New Nusantara, Advanced Indonesia,” we would like to consolidate and achieve the shared ambition towards a modernized Indonesia that embraces its rich heritage while striving for continued growth and advancement.
