“We both had a good laugh over that.” This was First Lady Liza Marcos’ reaction to criticisms over a viral video where she was seen taking the wine glass held by Senate President Francis Escudero and drinking from it during the vin d’honneur at Malacañang on Independence Day.

In a statement, shared by radio station dzRH on social media on Friday, Liza gave her side of the story on what transpired during the annual reception for diplomats. Malacañang has yet to issue a statement on the matter.

The viral clip was spliced from a Radio Television Malacañang video and posted on social media. The incident made the Senate President a top trending topic on X.

Liza began her statement with, “If truth be told, here’s what happened.”
