It was all over social media, and it even seeped into mainstream media (it was in print and on radio). In the usually convivial confines of the clubhouse of elite sports clubs — and I would imagine even in many executive offices — it was THE hot topic.

Two members of an elite club (where membership comes with a dizzying price tag of many, many zeros, according to a club shares website) were charged and found guilty of cheating in the club's annual tournament. The instigator of the infraction was forthwith (yes, forthwith, unlike the impeachment trial) expelled and no longer allowed to set foot in the club's premises, while the other member who went along with the scheme was meted a one-year suspension.

The Republic of Marites (guilty!) went into overdrive, with members, friends and family of members, friends of friends and of course CNN — the Caddie News Network — more than willing and happy to share the juicy news, especially on social media; whether it's fake or not is for you to decide. Some members were said to have been hanging around the club waiting for the board meeting to end to find out the board's decision and consequent action following the investigation; Marites said that the board decision to expel the one and suspend the other was unanimous, while the decision on penalty for the caddies has not, as of this writing, been announced.
