EDC Allots P3B to Upgrade Negros Geothermal Plant

Lopez-led Energy Development Corp. (EDC) is investing around P3 billion to expand the generating capacity of its existing geothermal plant in Negros Oriental.
EDC, through Green Core Geothermal Inc. (GCGI), has sought environmental clearance to upgrade the turbine system of its 112.5-megawatt (MW) Palinpinon 1 Geothermal Power Plant Project.
In a filing to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), GCGI said the three 37.5-MW turbine generators would be replaced with 42-MW units to expand the facility's total capacity to 126 MW.
"This upgrade is prompted by the fact that two of the turbine rotors are approaching the end of their asset life within two to three years," the company said.
