DPWH slashes budget request by 29% to P625.7 B

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has reduced its proposed budget for 2026 from P881.3 billion to P625.7 billion, a decrease of P255.5 billion or 28.99 percent.

Facing the House committee on appropriations chaired by Nueva Ecija Ist district Rep. Mikaela Suansing, Public Works Secretary Vivencio Dizon said the agency cleansed its proposed 2026 budget and removed all locally funded flood control projects.

“In line with the President's directive, as well as the instructions of the House committee on appropriations to review and revise the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways for fiscal year (FY) 2026, please find attached the proposed revisions to the DPWH budget for the National Expenditure Program (NEP) for 2026,” Dizon said in a letter dated Sept. 15 addressed to Speaker Martin Romualdez through Suansing.
