Response to education review must be bold

David Blunkett hits the nail on the head (“We need our children to leave school ready for life in the real world”, News, last week) when he says “radical reform is needed of both the curriculum and the assessment system”.
With increasing numbers of pupils staying in school until 18, why do we continue to assess as much as we do at 16? And with handwritten exams still the main means of examining knowledge, how are we preparing young people for the world beyond our school doors?
