SC sets aside cancellation of BJP MP's caste cert

IN a significant relief to Navneet Rana, the sitting Amaravati MP from Maharashtra, the Supreme Court reversed a 2021 Bombay High Court judgment on Thursday that had cancelled Rana's Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate of "Mochi," deeming it forged.
A two-judge bench led by Justice JK Maheshwari and comprising Justice Sanjay Karol, passed the verdict after hearing Rana's appeal. Rana had moved the apex court by filing an appeal and challenged the Bombay HC's June 2021 judgment cancelling her caste certificate on grounds of it being fraudulently obtained.
