SC extends stay on trial against Annamalai in 'hate speech' case

THE Supreme Court on Monday extended the stay on the trial and criminal proceedings against BJP's Tamil Nadu unit president K Annamalai for allegedly delivering a hate speech against Christians during an interview to a YouTube channel in October 2022.
Extending its earlier order of February 26, a two-judge bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta granted further relief to Annamalai till September 9 and asked the complainant to file his response within six weeks.
Annamalai had moved the supreme court challenging the dismissal of his petition by the Madras High Court on February 8, which refused to quash the criminal proceedings against him in the alleged hate speech case.
