A massive rescue operation is underway to evacuate stranded pilgrims in Kedarnath, severely affected by heavy rains and cloudburst.

"The rescue efforts have entered the third day, and we are doing everything possible to bring the stranded pilgrims to safety," said a rescue official.

"Over 1,500 pilgrims remain stranded at various points along the trekking routes", said an official of the State Disaster Management Authority.
