ON OCTOBER 12, 1810, Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. To celebrate this occasion, officials from Munich invited the public to celebrate on fields outside the city walls.

The site was named Theresienwiese ("Therese's Meadow") the following year and is still called Wiesn. Since then, Oktoberfest has been celebrated as a huge beer festival, with a fair like-theme including multiple food stalls, games, rides, etc. It generally starts in mid-September and carries on till the first Sunday of October, hence the name Oktoberfest.

The Leather Bar at The Park is trying to recreate part of the fervour and festivities with an Oktoberfest celebration. There is a specially curated menu for this festival and several beer offerings in both draught and bottled formats. It is a meat-heavy menu, though a few notable vegetarian options can be found. We started off with the Obatzda Pretzel. This is a traditional pretzel, made smaller for a bite-sized chunk, and offered with a German beer and cheese dip. Pretzels have a unique shape of their own, which comes from a way to twist strands of bread, and soft pretzels should be had fresh.
