Garbage tax: 18 KMC staff face action

KADAPA Municipal Corporation (KMC) Commissioner N Manoj Reddy on Monday announced disciplinary action against 18 municipal staff members for illegally collecting garbage tax from residents and businesses despite the levy being abolished by the State government.
The total amount collected was around ₹16.4 lakh, and police cases have been registered to recover the funds.
Reddy said that although the garbage tax was scrapped after the change of guard in the State, some employees continued collecting it between August 2024 and July 2025 without depositing the money into municipal accounts. Acting on complaints, six investigation teams led by superintendent-level officers inspected 2,414 establishments, including commercial complexes and apartments.
