Conviction rate in UT up 20% because of new criminal laws: CM

CHIEF Minister N Rangasamy on Tuesday said Puducherry has witnessed a significant drop in crime and a sharp rise in conviction rates following the implementation of the three new criminal laws introduced by the central government.
He was speaking at an event marking the first anniversary of the three laws in Puducherry.
Addressing the gathering, Rangasamy said, "Since the implementation of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, conviction rate has increased from 75% to 95%, leading to a visible decline in criminal activities. Of the 337 chargesheeted, as many as 319 cases resulted in conviction."
