PM-VBRY: Building the workforce for Viksit Bharat '47
The New Indian Express Vijayawada
|June 17, 2026
INDIA’S ambition to become a developed nation by 2047 is one of the most transformative national projects of our time.
The vision of Viksit Bharat extends beyond economic growth, encompassing job creation, productivity enhancement, social inclusion, and improved living standards for all citizens. As the country consolidates its position as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies, the focus is rightly shifting from growth alone to ensuring that growth creates meaningful opportunities for millions of Indians. Employment generation lies at the heart of this aspiration.
Recognising this imperative, the government has placed employment creation and workforce development at the centre of its policy agenda. The Pradan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), approved by the Union Cabinet in 2025, represents a significant step. With an outlay of nearly ₹1 lakh crore, the scheme is among the most ambitious employment-generation initiatives undertaken in recent years. By supporting both first-time employees and employers in creating additional jobs, PM-VBRY seeks to strengthen the formal employment ecosystem while contributing to India’s long-term development goals.
