Traders protest 18% GST on commercial properties' rent

TAMIL Nadu Traders Federation unit in Vellore held a protest at Anna Kalaiarangam on Wednesday against the rising taxes and demanded that the 18% goods and services tax (GST) imposed on rents for commercial properties (which was made effective from October 10 this year) be reversed.
The federation raised several demands to both the central and state governments, including reconsidering the proposed 28% GST on purchases over ₹10,000 for ready-made garments, which they say would place an immense burden on both businesses and consumers.
