|August 03, 2025
HAVING spent nine days in judicial custody, two Malayali nuns walked out of the Durg Central Jail on Saturday after being granted bail by an NIA court in Bilaspur, bringing relief and sparking joyous scenes in Kerala and Chhattisgarh alike.
Sisters Preethy Mary and Vandana Francis were received outside the jail by political leaders from Kerala who had reached Chhattisgarh, pressing for their release. The nuns were arrested on July 25 at the Durg railway station along with a tribal youth, Sukaman Mandavi, on charges of human trafficking and forced religious conversion.
