PATTALI Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader and MP Dr Anbumani Ramadoss has called for the identification and regularisation of wetlands across Tamil Nadu, urging the state government to implement the Supreme Court's recent directive on the matter.
Marking World Wetlands Day, Anbumani, who is also the honorary president of Pasumai Thayagam, visited the Pichavaram mangrove forest near Chidambaram in Cuddalore district on Sunday. He later participated in an awareness programme organised by Pasumai Thayagam at Pichavaram, where participants held banners demanding the protection of Tamil Nadu's wetlands and their official recognition under the 2017 regulations. He also took a boat ride into the Pichavaram mangrove forest to observe the wetlands and the mangrove ecosystem.
