THE 61-day annual fishing ban along the Andhra Pradesh coast officially ended on Saturday night, paving the way for full-scale fishing activity to resume.

- USHA PERI @ Visakhapatnam

Over 1,900 mechanised and motorised boats in Visakhapatnam district alone began operations from 11 p.m. on June 14, marking the start of a new season for thousands of fishermen.

Implemented under the Andhra Pradesh Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1994, the ban was in effect from April 15 to June 14.

It applies to all registered mechanised and motorised fishing vessels operating within the State's territorial waters and is aimed at conserving fish and shrimp populations during their breeding season.
