BACKING actor-politician Kamal Haasan for his recent remarks that Kannada originated from Tamil by citing 19th-century linguistic research as supporting evidence, Assembly Speaker M Appavu on Thursday said, "Tamil was born five to ten thousand years ago. Tamil is one of the first three languages in the world that still 'lives'. Kamal is correct. Kannada was born out of Tamil."
