Shutter of Ogalur irrigation canal damaged, 2,000 acres affected

OGALUR residents urged the authorities to urgently repair a damaged shutter in a key canal that supplies water to four lakes across neighbouring villages, in Perambalur as it disrupts the water flow, affecting agricultural and everyday needs.
The four major irrigation lakes are located in Athiyur, Kilumathur, Kai Perambalur and Vayalur villages. These lakes help irrigate about 2,000 acres of land in six villages and they receive water from the Vellaru River through a canal that is diverted to Ogalur village via shutter. From this shutter, the water flows to the lakes in Athiyur and other three villages.
