THE latest appointment made by Koodalmanikyam devaswom has sparked controversy with the temple's Thanthri and other parambarya workers (people who have traditionally handled the work in the temple) have opposed it.

A person belonging to the Ezhava caste was appointed for the job of making flower garlands for the deity at Koodalmanikyam temple, which was opposed by Thanthri and other temple staff. Aryanad native V I Balu was appointed for the post after written test and interview conducted by Koodalmanikyam Devaswom Recruitment Board. Balu came first among the shortlisted candidates and was appointed for the post. As per contract norms, Balu will work as Kazhakam staff (for carrying out temple duties) of the temple for 10 months and for the remaining two months, Irinjalakkuda Thekke Warriem can take care of the job.
