CU Syndicate dispute: Conciliation meeting fails to reach consensus

THE conciliation meeting held at Calicut University on Monday, chaired by Vice Chancellor P Raveendran to resolve disputes between the CPM-aligned Syndicate members and opposition members failed to reach a consensus.

The meeting was postponed following objections from the opposition members. The prolonged delay in resolving the disputes is likely to hinder the university's development projects. The next conciliation meeting has been scheduled for Friday, said the CPM-aligned Syndicate members.

The conciliation committee was originally formed to address several issues, including the dispute over a resolution by the CPM-aligned members seeking the cancellation of VC's transfer order of two clerks. An order issued by the university registrar regarding the meeting, which referred to the committee as a Syndicate sub-committee instead of a conciliation committee, along with the inclusion of an additional CPM member without the prior knowledge of opposition members, also sparked strong objections.
