The system is designed to alert residents about the presence of wildlife near forest borders
IN A significant step towards mitigating the growing issue of human-wildlife conflict, the forest department has launched an AI-powered Early Warning System (EWS) in the Palakkad forest division.
The system, inaugurated by the Forests and Wildlife Minister A K Saseendran on Thursday, is designed to provide advance alerts about the presence of wild animals near forest borders to help prevent their entry into human settlements, reducing the risk of conflict.
The system, developed using advanced artificial intelligence technology, includes high-resolution thermal and night vision cameras capable of detecting the movement of animals such as elephants and tigers within a range of 500 to 1,200m, during day and night.
