Kerala governor respects Parliament but scorns assembly: K C Venugopal
Kozhikode: AICC general secretary (organisation) and MP K C Venugopal launched a scathing attack on the Kerala governor, accusing him of undermining the state's legislative assembly while claiming to uphold the authority of Parliament. He was speaking at the inauguration of the new Kozhikode DCC office, named in honour of veteran leader K Karunakaran. Venugopal said the Centre is systematically misusing institutions like the ED, the CBI, and the EC to weaken states through governors. "This is evident in how numerous bills passed by state assemblies are indefinitely withheld, which are not isolated instances, but a pattern that is eroding democratic dignity," he said. He added that even the Supreme Court had flagged such delays as unconstitutional, yet the Kerala governor insisted that the judiciary cannot interfere, citing parliamentary supremacy. "If the governor respects Parliament so much, why does he refuse to acknowledge the authority of the legislative assembly?" Venugopal said.
