The Punjab farmers' protest took a serious turn after a farmer committed suicide on Thursday protesting the Centre's reported indifference to their demands even as the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) announced a tractor march across Punjab on Republic Day in pursuit of its demands.

Sources said Resham Singh of Pahuwind village in Tarn Taran district allegedly consumed insecticide at the Shambhu border protest site at the Punjab-Haryana border. He was taken to the hospital, but he succumbed.
